If you have pets, you know it can be challenging to keep your house tidy. Fortunately, there are some easy habits you can develop to keep things manageable. Here are five cleaning tips for pet owners.

Lint Rollers are Great Cleaning Tools for Pet Owners

Lint rollers are excellent for removing pet hair. Roll the furniture, pillows, or drapes for a quick pick-up between vacuuming. If you often use lint rollers, make your own with duct tape and a standard paint roller. Push the paint roller onto the handle and slowly wrap the duct tape around it with the sticky side out. This DIY tool makes quick work of pet hair removal and is more cost-effective than buying lint roller replacements.

Food Storage Containers

Airtight pet food storage containers will reduce pests and odor problems. The only maintenance required is to wash the container occasionally with dish soap and water. Be sure to rinse it thoroughly as any leftover soapy residue could cause your pet to have intestinal problems. After rinsing the food bin, dry the container completely. Do not put food into a damp container because the moisture inside may cause mold growth.

Wash Bedding

Most pet bedding material absorbs oil and dander from your pet’s body. Launder it as the manufacturer recommends. Vacuum the material often between washings and purchase or make a removable cover. It’s easier to toss a cover in the wash than to launder the entire bed. If you do need to clean the entire pet bed, take it to a laundromat with a special machine that can handle sleeping bags and other bulky items.

Use Doormats

Using doormats will help you save time cleaning the floors. Position mats outside and inside the doors your pet uses. Use a firm exterior mat to help trap dirt and mud from your pet’s paws. Once inside, a softer doormat will help absorb any moisture.

Cleaning Tips for Pet Owners: Grooming

Keeping your pet clean will make a difference inside the house. Grooming helps trap their fur in the comb or brush instead of your furniture. Begin brushing your pet when they are young and most animals will learn to enjoy it. Bathe your dog every month. Cats can be brushed and wiped down with a warm damp washcloth.
